"Excellent progress" to Beijing 2008 Olympics

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are really close, and it's good to hear the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announcing that the progress for event was “excellent”. The IOC’s chief inspector for Beijing 2008, Hein Verbruggen, assured that solid foundations were in place for a successful tournament.

“I'm glad to see that excellent progress has been made across the board. The venues took our breath away. All the venues are spectacular and will offer a very, very powerful backdrop to the Games”. Th diplomatic has announced that organizers also had an unprecedented sponsorship program and ticket sales would be strong.

What's more, Verbruggen also noticed: “clearly, as a sports organization, we want to be assured that the world’s athletes will compete under adequate environmental conditions”. He is convinced that organizers and the city were doing their best to fight pollution.

In fact, international groups have criticized China’s human rights record, including concerns about child labour and jailing dissidents. Verbruggen expressed BOCOG needed to strengthen how it dealt with those matters because they could harm the reputation of the Games, but he said the IOC’s main focus was firmly on the sports tournament.

At the same time, Prensa Latina reports Beijing 2008 will create an alternative Press Center to give services to professionals unofficially accredited to the event. Wang Hui, sub director of the Press and Communication Department, said that the IOC imposed a strict quota of 5,600 credentials for the graphic and written press, the same figure as for the Sydney and Athens Games, but excluding radio and television.

It's important to mention that the official said the alternative centre will have a beautiful view of the city and provide as much information, facilities and services as possible.
