Volleyball: Why is Japan hosting the 2006 World Championship?

In a good announcement for the fans, the International Volleyball Federation Thursday made public the reason why Japan hosts so many international events.

According to official sources, the FIVB expressed that it was Japan's good volleyball environment and economy to help them win the biding for this kind of tournaments.

"I have to say that in the new conditions of volleyball, there are specific requirements for the host national federation. One of the requirements is the television of the country involved and to have marketing possibilities." FIVB president Ruben Acosta admitted.

We must consider that Japan hosted 2001 World Grand Champions Cup, 2003 World Cup, 2005 World Grand Championship and will host 2006 World Championship and 2007 World Cup.

"Because the world championship are very expensive and we msut realize about that. The FIVB will pay all the transportation for all the participants. So today the organization of a world championship is expensive, then we could not appoint the world championship to a Republic that doesn't have the means to maintain the level of participants." said Acosta.

"Another important reason is that TV in Japan have been the highest ratings broadcasting, even without host nation, the match could also attracted millions spectators." Acosta noticed.

We must mention that Acosta also expelled the saying that the decision will harm the enthusiasm of other national federations.

"This might not be a problem. We have qualification matches all around world. We have 174 teams took part in the qualifications this year. The FIVB had other systems to engage the promotion of volleyball. We hope in 2012, we will have 217 squads to participate in the qualification of 2012 World Championships." he concluded.
